How to book Backbeat

Backbeat is the adaptation of the 1994 film by Iain Softley on the birth of the Beatles. The show is Co-written by Iain Softley and Stephen Jeffreys, with musical direction by Paul Stacey and directed by the award-winning David Leveaux. Backbeat will find its home in London's Duke of York Theatre for its West End premiere from October.

Backbeat is the incredible story of how The Beatles ‘became' The Beatles. It follows the journey of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe as they head away from the famous docks of Liverpool in search of success in Hamburg, as they work eight days a week, in the clubs performing rock 'n' roll covers night after night.

Discover the compelling triangular relationship between the band’s original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe, the striking German photographer Astrid Kirchherr who he fell in love with and his best friend John Lennon. As the relationship develops this triangle becomes an intrinsic part of The Beatles story – and puts them on an unstoppable trajectory onto the world stage.

Look in to this vivid portrait of life in the 1960’s as The Beatles sign to Parlophone Records, release their first single ‘Love Me Do’ and witness Stuart’s struggles before his death.

Backbeat features all the rock 'n' roll classics that you would expect, including 'Twist & Shout', 'Rock 'N' Roll Music', 'Long Tall Sally', 'Please Mr Postman' and ‘Money’ - live on stage as performed by 'the Beatles'.

Backbeat contains language & scenes of an adult nature – parental guidance is advised for those under the age of 15. Please be advised that there will be smoking on stage.

You can only purchase tickets for Backbeat with hotel accommodation, and the number of tickets you request must be the same as the number of hotel guests.
