Betrayal the play is a story of passion, deceit and anguish. Written by Harold Pinter in 1978 the play explores the emotions of love, loss and betrayal.
Emma is married to Robert, but for seven years has been conducting an affair with his best friend Jerry, who in turn is married to Judith. Running in reverse order Betrayal the play is a clever glimpse into the first deceit, ongoing affair and high emotions that the four characters endure across a nine year period.
Betrayal the play was first produced by the National Theatre in London on 15 November 1978 and in 1979 won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play. This brand new production stars Kristin Scott Thomas, Douglas Henshall and Ben Miles, and will run at The Comedy Theatre for a limited period. The play will be directed by Ian Rickson, who directed Harold Pinter in Krapp's Last Tape.
The play was adapted into a film in 1983 starring Jeremy Irons, Patricia Hodge and Ben Kingsley.
Betrayal the play is suitable for audiences aged 16 and upwards
