The multi-award winning Chicago heads to the Cardiff Millennium Centre as part of its UK tour. The spectacular show will appear at the theatre from the 9th to the 14th July 2012.

Chicago the musical is based on a 1926 play of the same name by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins who incorporated the stories of real life crimes and criminals that she reported on in prohibition America. Chicago Cardiff is fuelled by lust, greed, crime and jazz. When Roxy Hart is arrested for the murder of her lover she pulls out all the stops to boost her singing career and keep her neck safe from the gallows. In prison she meets the renowned Velma Kelly and ignites a rivalry when she hires the same smooth talking lawyer Billy Flynn.

Chicago has been running for over 40 years, with the first Broadway production staged in 1975. It features an array of stunning songs from the enticing Cell Block Tango and All That Jazz to the cleverly weaved We Both Reached for the Gun and Razzle Dazzle. The roles have drawn some big names to the stage including Jimmy Osmond, Marti Pellow, Jerry Springer, Claire Sweeny, Bonnie Langford, Ruthie Henshall and more.

Chicago was adapted into an Academy Award winning film in 2002 with Renee Zelwegger, Catherine Zeta Jones and Richard Gere taking on the lead roles.
