How to book Long Days Journey Into Night
The award winning play Long Days Journey Into Night will show at the Apollo Theatre from the 3rd April 2012 to 18th August 2012. Written by Eugene O’Neill Long Days Journey Into Night captures one day in the life of the dysfunctional Tyrone family.
Set over the course of a hot summer’s day in 1912, Long Days Journey Into Night delves into the relationships, deceptions and conflicts of the Tyrone family. While the father James Tyrone, played by David Suchet, is a struggling actor and alcoholic, his wife is addicted to morphine and their two sons are also both alcoholics. The youngest son Edmund has failing health and is a concern to all the family.
The play was written in 1942 but due to its autobiographical content was not published until 1956 three years after O’Neill’s death. O’Neill was posthumously awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the work; Long Days Journey Into Night also won the 1956 Tony Award for Best Play. In 2003 the play was revived and won the Tony for Best Revival.
Long Days Journey Into Night was adapted into a film in 1962 where it won Best Actor awards and a Best Actress for Katherine Hepbuen at the Cannes Film Festival. Hepburn was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
