With a new design, staging and costumes Cameron Mackintosh’s production of Phantom of the Opera Bristol injects a new lease of life into Andrew Lloyd Webbers’s much loved musical. At the heart of the Paris Opera a backdrop mysteriously collapses scaring the lead soprano who refuses to perform, chorus girl Christine Daaé takes to the stage as her replacement and is a great success. Back in her dressing room Christine entertains her old childhood friend Raoul and confides to him that it is the ‘Angel of Music’ who has taught her. The jealous Phantom appears to Christine and takes her to his underground realm.
