How to book The Homecoming

Premiered by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1965 Harold Pinter’s award winning play The Homecoming returns to the RSC as part of the company’s 50th birthday celebrations.

The Homecoming tells the story of married couple Teddy and Ruth as they return to Teddy’s family in North London after nine years in the USA. Teddy introduces Ruth to the family she has never met and is soon confronted with years of pent up sibling rivalry, one-upmanship and discontent.

As tensions in the marriage come to light Teddy declares his desires to return to the USA, while Ruth is enjoying acquainting herself with his working class family, teasing all the men of the house with her sexuality including Teddy’s father, uncle and two brothers.

The cracks in the marriage widen and Teddy return’s to their three sons and America alone, leaving Ruth to stay in London with the men as one of the family.

Winner of the 1967 Tony Award for best play The Homecoming is cited as one of Pinter’s best works. The Homecoming also received the Tony award for Best Revival of a Play for the 40th-anniversary Broadway production at the Cort Theatre. The Royal Shakespeare Company’s production is directed by the Associate Director David Farr.
